Effective Volume Update - $SPY $QQQ $IWM - isatrader - 2013-03-29

Attached is the updated Effective Volume charts from http://www.effectivevolume.com of the SPY, QQQ and IWM ETFs. It was a mostly positive week with the effective volume flow, most notably in the QQQ which managed to close the week just above the recent swing highs. All three indexes are back above their 20 day MA's, but they continue to trade in a sideways range.

Market Breadth Update - isatrader - 2013-03-30

Attached is the NYSE long, medium and short term moving average breadth charts and the NYSE Bullish Percent Index.

The short term charts continue to be where all the movement is with the S&P 500 and the DOW 30 Percentage of Stock Above their 50 day Moving Averages reversing back to a column of Xs once more. Which negated the Bear Alert in those, and although I've put the DOW on Bear Correction now, as the last breakout signal it had was a sell, it's kind of in neutral territory between bull and bear. But at the elevated level it's at the risk is to the downside.

The line charts show the short term moves in all the charts the clearest, which shows that they are very close to giving sell signals, and so with a new quarter beginning next week, the participation will need to broaden again, or it could go negative quickly as it won't take much to push these to a sell signal.

Margin Debt at Extreme Levels - isatrader - 2013-03-31

Attached is the margin debt charts, that show that people have been buying heavily on margin over the last few months which is now at the 2007 levels again. So what does it mean? From articles I've read, they suggest that if the market starts to get a bit more volatile again then we could see a rapid liquidation as people get margin calls and have to sell their most liquid assets. So this is a big warning sign.

Commodities Update and the Dollar Index - isatrader - 2013-03-31

Attached is the updated major commodities charts, Gold (GC), Copper (HG), West Texas Intermediate Crude (CL) and the Dollar Index (DX).

Potential Stage 4 breakdown in Copper occurring. it needs to close below the recent swing low to confirm, but would be a negative for the equity market if it does as is showing weakness in the global economy.
