RE: Market Breadth Update - isatrader - 2013-06-06 (2013-06-06, 09:35 AM)goodtyneguy Wrote: What's the story behind the chart and how did Zacks get to know of it? I've been posting some of the market breath charts on Stocktwits and Twitter each week for a while to help drive some viewers to the site, and Kevin Cook who is a Senior Stock Strategist at Zacks is very active on Stocktwits and has private messaged me a few times about the sector charts I created and yesterday asked if he could use the sector visual in his weekly video. The chart shows a snapshot of all the nine major sectors in the US percentage above their 150 day moving averages data, along with the NYSE Percentage of Stocks above their 150 day moving averages ($NYA150R). So what this chart does is show you a breakdown by sector of the US market, which at last count covered 4839 stocks, and hence where the sector relative strength and weakness is in the broad market, and if the whole market is getting overbought or oversold. What I think is really useful about it is though with relation to Weinstein's method is that you can use it to help determine the Stages of the broad market and the individual sectors as well like he does with his proprietary S&P Survey - which is the percentage of stocks in Stages 1 and 2, and as we've discussed recently, Weinstein said in the "Technically Speaking" interview way back, that the NYSE Percentage of Stocks above their 150 day moving averages chart has a 75-80% correlation with his proprietary Survey and so is a good proxy for us without access to his regular Global Trend Alert report. US Industry Sectors Breadth - isatrader - 2013-06-08 It's been two weeks since my last sector breadth update, and we've seen the extreme bullishness from then tempered a bit with eight of the nine sectors lower than they were two weeks back now - with only Health Care being higher. The overall bull bear mix has also neutralised with five of the nine sectors now on sell signals, and seven of the nine sectors continued lower this week, although the move was more minor than the previous week. Consumer Discretionary moves into the top spot on the table and Basic Materials continues to be the weakest sector with only 43.58% of it's stocks above their 150 Day Moving Averages. Below is the data table for the Percent of Stocks Above 150 Day Moving Average in each sector which I've ordered by relative strength, with the highest to the lowest percentage in each sector. Also attached is the visual diagram of the 9 sectors and the overall NYSE Percentage of Stocks above their 150 day Moving Averages, plus the 1% P&F chart and line chart of the nine sectors. S&P 500 Cumulative P&F Breakouts - Breakdowns - isatrader - 2013-06-08 The S&P 500 Cumulative P&F Breakouts - Breakdowns chart rolled over this week to finish the week right on it's 20 day moving average, although the moving average itself is still rising strongly. The total for the week was 13 breakouts to 37 breakdowns, starting June off on a negative note.
