RE: US Stocks - Watchlist and Discussion (Premium) - isatrader - 2014-12-19 CCXI - Very early Stage 2A breakout, with strong heavy resistance, but also a large increase in volume, as can be very clearly seen on the monthly chart. Not looking like A+ candidate. Thank you for all the hard work you do. Regards Kuntal RE: US Stocks - Watchlist and Discussion (Premium) - ksarkar77 - 2014-12-21 ISA Trader, What is the best way to find out the industry/sector of a particular stock? Different websites seems to group them in a different ways. What is the best website to refer to for this information? Thanks Kuntal RE: US Stocks - Watchlist and Discussion (Premium) - isatrader - 2014-12-21 (2014-12-21, 06:43 PM)ksarkar77 Wrote: What is the best way to find out the industry/sector of a particular stock? Different websites seems to group them in a different ways. What is the best website to refer to for this information? I use stockcharts.com personally, which uses the Dow Jones US S&P Sectors and Sub sectors, as I've found it to be the most reliable source, as it's kept up to date, and can be used directly on the charts for relative performance comparisons, which are necessary for a full Stage Analysis. Go to http://stockcharts.com/freecharts/industrysummary.html?&V=W&G=SECTOR_SPDR#&S=PD to see the full list of S&P sectors, and if you click on the name of the sector then it will take you through to individual lists of the stocks in the sector. Another way to see the major and sub sector is on the chart itself on stockcharts.com Just open a chart of a stock, and tick the box that's called "Full Quote" in the settings below and it will show you the sector and subsector above the chart, as well as a bunch of other information. I hope that helps. Worth noting that some, but not all, of the US biotechs have similarish looking charts, save for the volume, BIIB, BMY, MYL, TEVA: RE: US Stocks - Watchlist and Discussion (Premium) - ksarkar77 - 2014-12-21 (2014-12-21, 06:50 PM)isatrader Wrote:(2014-12-21, 06:43 PM)ksarkar77 Wrote: What is the best way to find out the industry/sector of a particular stock? Upon checking using your "full quote" method, nothing is being shown. How do you check industry for those? Again, your are doing a great work here. Keep it up. Thanks Kuntal RE: US Stocks - Watchlist and Discussion (Premium) - isatrader - 2014-12-22 (2014-12-21, 11:43 PM)ksarkar77 Wrote: I wanted to find industry information on VRNS. Upon checking using your "full quote" method, nothing is being shown. How do you check industry for those? It's a reasonably recent listing and so obviously hasn't been adding into their system yet, so the backup method is to go to the yahoo finance website and then put the stock ticker in the search, and from there it will show you it's page, on which it has a side navigation bar. Click on the one that says "Industry" and it will tell you yahoo's Sector and Subsector for it - which in the case of VRNS is Technology and Technical & System Software. So it then takes a bit of deductive reasoning to figure out what the correct sector will be on stockcharts, by looking other stocks in that yahoo sector in the same line of business and also looking at the companies website to see what they do and news stories about the company. i.e. What does Varonis do? "We provide an innovative software platform that allows enterprises to map, analyze, manage and migrate their unstructured data. We specialize in human-generated data, a type of unstructured data that includes an enterprise’s spreadsheets, word processing documents, presentations, audio files, video files, emails, text messages and any other data created by employees. This data often contains an enterprise’s financial information, product plans, strategic initiatives, intellectual property and numerous other forms of vital information. Our Metadata Framework is a proprietary technology platform that extracts critical metadata, or data about data, from an enterprise’s IT infrastructure and uses this contextual information to map functional relationships among employees, data objects, content and usage. IT and business personnel deploy our software for a variety of use cases, including data governance, data security, archiving, file synchronization, enhanced mobile data accessibility and information collaboration." So looking at that, and the main competitors like SAP, my assumption would be that the sector and subsector is Technology (XLK) and Software ($DJUSSW) on stockcharts.com RE: US Stocks - Watchlist and Discussion (Premium) - ksarkar77 - 2014-12-22 (2014-12-22, 12:00 AM)isatrader Wrote:(2014-12-21, 11:43 PM)ksarkar77 Wrote: I wanted to find industry information on VRNS.
